Is summer really almost over?

I forgot to check this blog site for about a month! It was so nice to hear about Jesse's wedding. It sounds like he lives in a lovely part of Texas! I saw one pic on facebook from Noah a while back. Jesse and his wife look so happy!! I still picture him as 16. I think that may be the last time I saw him! I really can't believe how fast time goes. I remember Lou telling me that when I was 18. He said the next thing I knew 20 years would have passed - look, it's been 16 years since that conversation already! Whew. I think kids really make the time go faster. My kids are growing up! Having Sawyer solidified it because we're no longer in planning mode. We're done having them so now as time goes by, all the babiness is gone for good. :( Having 3 is hard but Eric, Lyra and Leo help so much that it's almost easier than when I had Leo. I look at Jill and mom and can't imagine having them so young. You guys are amazing! Lyra is getting ready to start 1st grade! She is reading Dr. Seuss to us. it's so cool! My friend from book club said she's not surprised that Lyra enjoys reading because her mom does. I think that was the first time it occurred to me that she is exhibiting some Powers' traits! How cool! Leo is still the sweetest boy on the planet. He loves his little brother so much that I am often reminded of Lenny who didn't know his own strength! Leo just can't contain his love and I find myself often telling him to get off Sawyer. :) He always tells Sawyer that he's "cute cute" or "the best!" Aw!! Sawyer is so much fun. He is super strong. He almost does sit ups when he's tired of laying on his back! He loves to sit in his bouncy and watch Baby Einstein (he seems to prefer the music one...maybe some more Powers genes?). He watches it at least twice in a row, just kicking and punching the air. So cute!..Hm..I went back to work and am really loving it. This is the first time I've worked and it didn't feel like work. It's draining and I am happy to have time off but I don't dread going and I don't watch the clock while I'm there (unless I have a group of uncooperative guys, then I literally watch the clock waiting for group to end!). Other good news is that I passed my licensing exam! It was so hard and I barely passed but luckily it's a pass/fail deal. So, after I get my 3000 hours of supervision in, I will be fully licensed and nationally certified. Woo hoo! I thought I'd throw a bash but it all happened within the last month of pregnancy so it didn't feel like the right time. Maybe I'll wait until I get the 3000 hours in? I'll let you know...Eric is going back to school this semester. He's taking some design classes but physics is coming up soon, maybe he'll call you Mike! I don't know how Eric does it - he works full-time, goes to school, is super dad (see last post) and is way more domestic than I am! Did I luck out or what?! Also, he is turning 40 this year so stay tuned for some kind of celebration plans! Ok, that's a fairly descriptive update, right? I miss all of you so much and hope to see you soon! And, post stuff you guys!!!

Powers Blog Site: Blah Blah Blog

Powers Blog Site: Blah Blah Blog

I'm trying something different. I may be a blogger now rather than a commenter.

Jesse's wedding went very well. Maria and I arrived at the Corpus Christi airport within 10 minutes of Noah's arrival. We rented a car and all drove to Port Aransas (the island). We had booked a condo at the Dunes where Jesse works. You get more than a room. It's a condo with 2 bedrooms, a fold out couch. A kitchen, TV etc. Of course we had to pay $280/night! We also had to pay for three nights even though we only stayed 2. Double ouch!

The wedding was just outside the Dunes on the beach. It was 100 (110 heat index). Many of Jesse's and Tiffiny's friends came as well as her parents. Peg and Danai were there too so we have a FULL family picture (Mike, Maria, Peg, Danai, Jesse, Noah).

After the ceremony there was great food and music at the Dunes for a couple of hours. We had awesome smoked brisket with tasty barbeque sauce, baked beans, potatoe (Quail spelling) salad, fruit etc and lots of beer and wine. I took many pictures and shot video too as did Noah. I'll find a way to post some good shots and a short video or two at some point.

We have a full August with Magic conventions and a few band gigs. After that maybe we can make a visit to the Pontiac/Highland area and get everyone together.

More later...

Mike

hello powers people

i hope this site takes off for the family. i love emails, etc. but this is a fun way to keep in touch and stay up-to-date! :)

well, you guys all know that we've been busy with the new little guy. he is something. i thought that leo ate a lot. sawyer makes leo look like a light-weight. that means more bottle feeding and less breast feeding. i'm kinda sad cause it's a bonding thing but it's nice to share the feedings and if i only breast fed, he'd be stuck to me 24/7!

i go back to work july 21 (2 days/week) and leo and lyra will go to day camp those 2 days. they are super excited! sawyer will go to a daycare. i'm lucky to only have to work 2 days at this point. it's a nice way to ease sawyer into daycare (and me into leaving my little one).

well, that's about it for now. oh, and i wish i could go to jesse's wedding! mike, please let him know that i miss him and wish him all the best!!

oh, i didn't mention eric but the picture illustrates what he's been up to - being super dad, as usual! :)

Blah Blah Blog

Hi Everyone,
Am I blogging?? Reen, I followed the link from your email. I will write for a bit and then send it and then figure out where the heck it shows up. We will just see about this blogging business.
Issues on my mind..
Jesse's wedding. All this time I was hoping he would invite us to the wedding, but now I've received an invitation, and it turns out we can't go. Mitch has to go to summer school, and that interferes with going to the wedding... Mike, take lots of pictures!
Our dog, Tilly, is still with us. Her nasal cancer has been growing steadily but slowly. Meanwhile I found out about a protocol developed at Tufts that is doable financially. We started on it a few days ago, and I think it may be helping. The drugs "starve" the tumor of its blood supply, shrinking it. This has worked well for vascular tumors like Tilly's. We will see... She has already survived much longer than we expected, and most of the time she has been her usual happy, comic self.
That's it for now.
love,
Yade

Blog #1 - Testing, testing...

I've read so much about blogging that I decided it was time to check it out and see what all the fuss is about. My initial thought is to use this area as a communication hub for my family. My 2 brothers, sister and 2 daughters are all wonderful, creative, funny and talented writers, so... what better forum? Can it be used that way? Let's find out!
Mike, Don, Judy, Courtney, Jill... does anyone have a comment, a story, a picture or something on your mind you'd like to share?
